Start with an open conversation

Talk about expectations

Ask what the other person is looking for, and explain what you want without assuming that a shared interest means the same expectations.

Make space for boundaries

Discuss what feels comfortable and what does not. You do not owe anyone an explanation for declining a conversation or meeting.

Respect a change of mind

Agreement should be freely given and specific. Anyone can change their mind at any time. Respect a no, uncertainty or a request to stop without persuasion.

Check in with each other

Listen, ask rather than assume, and give each other space to answer honestly. A good connection leaves both people feeling heard and respected.
